Skin and Cosmetic

Skin care is the range of practices supporting the integrity of skin, better appearance and better skin conditions. Skin care and its procedures bring in exfoliation, botulonium, laser medicine in the process of cosmetic resurfacing, removing unwanted hair, vitiligo, removing tattoo, photodynamic therapy, retinol therapy, peels, and microdermabrasion.

Cosmetic surgery is one surgical specialty that works on restoring, reconstructing, or even altering the human body. It could be divided into two categories: reconstructive and cosmetic surgical procedure. Reconstructive surgery involves hand surgery, craniofacial surgery, treating the burns, and microsurgery. While reconstructive surgery works to reconstruct a portion of the human body or better its functioning, aesthetic or cosmetic surgery aims towards improvement of its appearance.

The techniques and procedures used in plastic surgery is skin grafting where the skin tissue transfer happens and is a very common procedure. Skin grafts could be obtained from donors or recipients. The process involves:

  1. Autografts that are extracted from the recipient and in case it is absent or it is deficient of the natural tissue, there could be alternative of using cultured sheets of the epithelial cells into synthetic compounds.
  2. Allografts are extracted from a donor from the same species.
  3. Xenografts are taken from a donor who is from different species.

In most cases, good results could be expected from plastic surgery where the emphasis is on careful planning of incisions such that they fall within natural skin and its fold lines, where there is appropriate choice of how to close the wound, using best of suture materials available, plus early removal of the sutures that are exposed so that the wound is held closed by the buried sutures.
