Diabetes and endocrinology require specialty diagnosis and treatment of patients with conditions caused by abnormalities of hormone action and endocrine glands. This requires an understanding of the basic mechanisms of physiology and patient-focused approach through effective disease control and cure. Endocrine diseases and diabetes affect every physiological system of the body so we need the best specialists. We at CURA have collaborated with Joslin Diabetes Center on several programs to provide patient-centered care to treat and manage diabetes, which includes diabetes and cardiovascular disease, eye care for those with diabetes, kidney and pancreas disease, high-risk pregnancy and obesity. We have a general treatment for diabetes which includes proper nutrition, exercise and medications. Insulin is provided for type 1 diabetes, which usually develops in children or young adults, but can occur at any age. Oral medication is provided to the type 2 diabetes when the body is unable to produce enough insulin, which usually occurs in people who are over 40 and have a family history of diabetes.
Extremely high blood sugar levels for a long time can damage the nerve and cause severe pain. Such diabetes, which can affect the hips, head, digestive system, feet and legs are termed as Diabetic Neuropathy. Autonomic neuropathy affects the digestive system, with symptoms of bloating, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea and vomiting. Peripheral neuropathy affects the feet and legs, with sensations of tingling, numbness or burning pain. Proximal neuropathy usually presents on one side of your thighs, hips or buttocks. Focal neuropathy can affect nerves in the head. It can cause muscle weakness or pain, with symptoms including double vision, eye pain or paralysis on one side of the face. We manage blood sugar and using insulin or pain medications to control symptoms. CURA specialists offer psychological support as well as rehabilitation. We also provide spinal cord stimulation to selected patients.

With one or more parathyroid glands being overactive, there is an excess production parathyroid hormone in the bloodstream resulting in the condition of Hyperparathyroidism. One or more of the parathyroid glands is enlarged, causing overproduction of the hormone, which results in high levels of calcium in the blood are seen in primary hyperparathyroidism. After an initial low level of calcium in the body and over time, there is an increased parathyroid hormone production is seen in Secondary hyperparathyroidism. Common symptoms of hyperparathyroidism are kidney stones, excessive urination, fatigue, depression, osteoporosis, abdominal pain and pain in joints. We cured 95% of hyperparathyroidism cases with the surgery.
The condition of producing excess thyroid hormone is Hyperthyroidism where the thyroid gland is overactive showing the symptoms of anxiety, nervousness, profuse sweating, weight loss, hand tremor, rapid heartbeat and sleep problems. We at CURA will be able to treat hyperthyroidism cases with medication or sometimes radioactive iodine therapy to damage the cells that make thyroid hormones. Only in rare cases, we recommend surgery to remove the thyroid.
A condition in which the thyroid gland is unable to produce enough thyroid hormone leads to hypothyroidism resulting in the slowdown of metabolic activity in the body resulting in fatigue, depression, constipation and memory loss. Thyroid hormone medicine is a common treatment for hypothyroidism. There is a pronounced improvement within the first week of starting treatment.
A condition in which the body loses too much bone, making it brittle and to break is Osteoporosis. The treatment is primarily based on the risk of how strong the bone will be in the next 10 years using the bone density test. The treatment is provided with the result obtained from the bone density test.
The hormonal disorder commonly found among women of reproductive age in which a woman’s hormones are out of balance is polycystic ovary syndrome. Small cysts are found in the ovaries with infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or too much male hormone (androgen) levels. They often develop around the time of the first menstrual period during puberty. They develop acne, weight gain/trouble losing weight, extra hair on the face and body, thinning hair on the scalp, fertility problems and depression. A proper health regime with regular exercise and healthy foods are the treatments for the disorder, preventing long time health problem.
